A prominent cleric and head of the Initiative for a Better and Brighter Nigeria, Prophet Isa El-Buba, has issued a stark warning: Nigeria risks sliding into a one-party state, a move he says would spell democratic disaster. He has thrown his full support behind Prince Adewole Adebayo, leader of the Social Democratic Party, for the 2027 presidency.

Speaking at an SDP stakeholders meeting, El-Buba framed the gathering as a pivotal moment in the nation’s political journey. He urged Nigerians to unite behind leaders who can restore public trust and steer the country away from its deepening troubles.

The cleric painted a grim picture of a nation rich in resources but plagued by insecurity, poverty, unemployment, and social injustice. He blamed years of failed leadership for locking millions, especially the youth, out of education and economic opportunity.

“Nigeria is blessed with abundant resources, intelligent people, and great potential, yet millions still suffer from insecurity, unemployment, poverty, and injustice,” he said, calling for a collective push to rewrite the country’s story.

El-Buba didn’t mince words: “Now is the time we need to join forces together to rewrite history. Nigeria cannot continue to go through pain, frustration, and clueless leadership.”

He warned against any political trend that stifles competition, stressing that justice, equity, and fairness are non-negotiable for stability. “Nigeria cannot go into a one-party state. Every system survives by justice and equity. Oppression is never the pathway to stability, and peace cannot thrive in the midst of injustice,” he declared.

Backing Adebayo, El-Buba said his movement will mobilize support for the SDP leader ahead of 2027. He argued that only leaders committed to rebuilding institutions and values can deliver genuine renewal.

The clergyman also took aim at vote-buying and political bribes, insisting Nigerians are now too politically aware to trade their future for cash or handouts. “Nobody will buy the conscience of Nigeria with money or a bag of rice. Nigerians are tired, and it is time to recover the glory of our country,” he said.

Despite the challenges, El-Buba expressed optimism, describing the current moment as a chance for national rebirth and the rise of purposeful leadership to tackle long-standing problems.
