Political Earthquake in Osun: Top Oyetola Ally Quits APC

Osun political shock: Former commissioner Folorunso Bamisayemi, an ally of ex-Gov Oyetola, resigns from APC amid party realignments ahead of future elections.

Folorunso-Oladoyin-Bamisayemi

The political landscape of Osun State has been jolted by a stunning resignation. Hon. Folorunso Oladoyin Bamisayemi, a former Commissioner for Education and a key ally of ex-Governor Gboyega Oyetola, has formally severed ties with the All Progressives Congress.

Bamisayemi’s resignation, dated June 1, 2026, was submitted to the APC Ward Chairman of Kere Ward 09 in Ife South Local Government Area. The decision, he stated, takes immediate effect. The letter, also sent to local APC chairman Hon. Gbenga Oladokun, offers no explicit reason for the dramatic exit.

However, a subsequent Facebook post from the former commissioner hints at deeper turmoil. “After weeks of introspection and reflection on recent political developments within the All Progressives Congress in Osun State,” he wrote, “I have conclusively resolved to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect.” He expressed gratitude to party leaders and members at various levels, but the message was clear: the party has lost a prominent figure.

This defection comes at a critical time of political realignments and consultations ahead of future electoral contests in the state. Bamisayemi, who served under Oyetola during his tenure as governor and now as Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, remains tight-lipped about his next move. Speculation is rife that he may be joining a rival party or preparing for a new political chapter.

The resignation underscores growing fractures within the Osun APC, as key figures reassess their loyalties. For now, the party’s hierarchy in Ife South is left to ponder the fallout, while Bamisayemi’s supporters and political watchers await his next declaration.
