The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven‑day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve the nation’s naira shortage. President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, announced the deadline on Monday in Abuja during the opening session of the Central Working Committee meeting, warning that workers would be instructed to stay away from work if the problem is not addressed by the end of the period.
Ajaero voiced deep concern over the hardships Nigerians are enduring as a result of the government’s naira redesign policy and condemned the ongoing fuel scarcity, stating that both workers and the broader population are being pushed to the wall. “On this issue of fuel scarcity and cash crunch, the Congress wishes to inform the Federal Government that we will no longer keep quiet,” he declared. “The NLC is giving the Central Bank of Nigeria and the FG seven working days; if they fail to act, all workers in Nigeria should stay at home.”
The meeting then moved to a closed‑door session.
