The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has accused several party chieftains in Imo State of sabotaging the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the recent presidential and National Assembly elections. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ikenna Onuoha, Anyanwu alleged that these unnamed chieftains collected election funds provided to the PDP but then turned to work for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Anyanwu expressed displeasure over the “number of saboteurs surrounding the party in Imo State,” saying their primary objective was to ensure the PDP’s disappearance in the state. He claimed that during the just‑concluded elections, these saboteurs deliberately starved the party and its members of funds that had been approved and released as election‑intervention money. According to him, appeals to release the funds to the appropriate authorities, in line with the national template, were flagrantly ignored. The sabotage, he argued, was intended to frustrate the PDP and cause its candidates to lose.
After hijacking the election‑intervention funds allocated to the party in Imo State, some of the saboteurs allegedly turned against PDP candidates and engaged in anti‑party activities to justify their alliance with All Progressives Congress leaders.
Anyanwu called on the party’s candidates and aggrieved members who have suffered neglect and betrayal to remain calm. He assured them that all legal means would be employed to bring those directly or indirectly involved to justice. While pledging efforts to revive the PDP and make it more viable ahead of the November 11 governorship election, Anyanwu expressed optimism that the betrayers would soon be exposed.
