A 33‑year‑old woman, Ifeoma Ossai, killed her 50‑year‑old landlord, Monday Oladele, during a dispute. The confrontation escalated when Ossai grabbed Oladele’s genitals and dragged him, causing him to lose consciousness and die.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, announced the incident in a statement on Tuesday. He said officers from the State Police Command arrested the suspect after a report was filed at the Sango‑Ota divisional headquarters. The police were alerted by Olaleye Taiwo, who said his brother Oladele had argued with his tenant over an unpaid electricity bill.
According to Oyeyemi, during the argument the tenant seized Oladele’s genitals and dragged him, after which the landlord collapsed. He was taken to General Hospital, Ota, where the attending doctor confirmed his death. Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Sango‑Ota, CSP Saleh Dahiru, led detectives to the scene, and the suspect was promptly arrested and placed in custody for investigation.
During interrogation, the suspect claimed that Oladele had demanded payment for the electricity bill, but she refused, insisting she would not pay any utilities until water was directly connected to her apartment as promised by the landlord before she moved in. The disagreement turned violent, leading her to grab his genitals and drag him, after which he slumped and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has been placed in the hospital mortuary for a post‑mortem examination.
The PPRO added that Commissioner of Police Frank Mba has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
