Virgin Atlantic has become the first and only UK member of the SkyTeam Alliance. The airline formally joined the global alliance at a signing ceremony in London on Thursday, according to a statement released by Virgin Atlantic. This new membership will strengthen SkyTeam’s transatlantic network and improve services to and from Heathrow and Manchester airports.

The airline highlighted that SkyTeam membership will give Virgin Atlantic customers a consistent, seamless experience across 1,000 destinations in more than 170 countries. Travelers will be able to book any SkyTeam flight on a single ticket and check in their baggage just once, all the way to the final destination. Flying Club members will enjoy greater opportunities to earn Virgin Points and Tier Points on all member airlines, accelerating both rewards and tier status, and will be able to redeem points on SkyTeam carriers.

In addition to its joint‑venture partners Delta Air Lines and Air France‑KLM, the alliance includes Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, ITA Airways, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, MEA, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines and XiamenAir. Virgin Atlantic’s Flying Club members will receive a range of benefits that enhance their journeys across the SkyTeam network.

Virgin Atlantic said its entry into the alliance builds on the success of its transatlantic joint venture with Delta and Air France‑KLM, both long‑standing SkyTeam members. The airline is co‑located at London Heathrow’s Terminal 3 alongside Delta, Aeromexico and China Eastern, providing customers with smooth airside transfers and the most convenient connection times possible.
