The governorship candidate of the Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Abdul‑Azeez Adediran—known as Jandor—has introduced his wife, Mariam Adediran, to members of the PDP family. The News Agency of Nigeria reported that political propaganda has circulated about the family of the 45‑year‑old frontline contender for the state’s top seat. Mariam, who resides in the United States, had not been visible in her husband’s political activities since the 2023 electioneering began.
At an interactive session with PDP women and leaders in Lagos State on Tuesday, Mrs. Mariam emphasized that supporters of her husband would not work in vain, noting his continued passion for improving the quality of life for all, especially women and children. Radiating smiles, she addressed the large crowd, assuring them that life would be better with the PDP at the helm of state affairs. She condemned politicians who spread calumny on social media against her family because she was not physically present with her husband. According to her, she has always been part of her husband’s political movement, supporting him from the United States. “I have been part of this movement, and my husband and I agreed that he would be in Nigeria to drive it while I remain in the US with the children,” she said. “It is disheartening what people do in the name of politics on social media. I am not a social‑media person, but I read everything they post.”
Mariam praised women for backing her husband’s vision for a better Lagos, acknowledging the progress made while stressing that much more remains to be done before the campaign concludes. “I love you, and even though the election is only a few days away, we still have so much to accomplish together, and I know God will grant our efforts success,” she declared. She thanked everyone for their movements, engagements, and contributions to the cause, urging them not to be discouraged. “If anyone tells you that your work is in vain, tell them it is not, because you can see the movement growing and you have remained focused. This movement is just beginning, even though you have already done a great deal,” she added.
Passionate about women and children, Mariam urged women to believe in themselves, promising to ensure that all women in the movement—both locally and across Lagos—stand on their feet and have confidence. In his remarks, Jandor expressed confidence that, without a godfather, he would win the election and make the state’s wealth work for all residents. He affirmed that he has God on his side and the people’s support to defeat the ruling party.
The event, held at the PDP candidate’s campaign office in Ikeja, was attended by the party’s deputy governorship candidate, Funke Akindele, former PDP Board of Trustees member Mrs. Aduke Maina, former Lagos PDP Women Leader Mrs. Bisi Odunsi, Chairperson of the Lagos4Lagos Movement Chief Tanwa Olusi, as well as women leaders from the party’s 20 local government areas and other guests.
