The 2026 Emmy nominations have arrived, setting the stage for television’s most anticipated night. With the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards just two months away, the nominees were announced on Wednesday, July 8, during a live-streamed ceremony that kicked off with early reveals from the “Today” show.
The “Today” show unveiled contenders in two categories: outstanding variety series and outstanding reality competition program. Among the highlights, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” earned a nod in the variety series category, just two months after the CBS late-night talk show signed off in May following its cancellation. The show took home two Emmy statuettes last year for outstanding talk series and outstanding directing for a variety series.
Later in the ceremony, Liza Colón-Zayas from “The Bear” and Jeff Hiller from “Widow’s Bay” announced nominations in additional categories. The event streamed live on the Emmys website at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT.
The 2026 Emmy Awards are scheduled for September 14 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, airing live on NBC and Peacock from Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. On July 7, it was confirmed that Emmy-winning “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay will host the ceremony.
