Russia strikes down 3 suspected Ukrainian missiles in Belgorod

Russia’s air defence has shot down three missiles over the Russian city of Belgorod in the border region with Ukraine, the authorities have said.

A piece of debris and fragments came crashing down in a populated area, Belgorod Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov announced on Tuesday night.

One girl was slightly injured by broken glass and several houses were damaged.

Gladkov did not speak on the origin of the rockets.

He and the authorities of the Bryansk and Kursk regions, which were also close to the border, have repeatedly complained of shelling from the Ukrainian side.

The Mayor of Belgorod, Valentin Demidov, said that the residents of the damaged houses had been advised to stay in a hotel.

According to the statement, repair work is to begin on Wednesday.

In total, around 11 houses were affected.

“Basically, windows and roofs were damaged, and there was damage to cars,’’ Demidov wrote.
