Call of Duty: Black Ops Ports Sell 11M on PS4, PS5 in July

Fourteen-year-old Call of Duty titles have emerged as 2026’s best-selling games on PlayStation, with ports of Black Ops and Black Ops 2 selling over 11 million copies combined in their first month on the market. The releases, handled by Iron Galaxy and published by Activision with original developer Treyarch, launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on July 9, 2026, priced at $40 each, with a limited-time $20 offer for PlayStation Plus members.

According to estimates from Alinea Analytics, Black Ops 2 leads with approximately 8.2 million units sold, 93 percent of which were on PlayStation 5. The original Black Ops, released in 2010, added roughly 3 million units, with 94 percent of those sales on the newer console. The two titles claimed the top spots on PlayStation’s sales charts for July, outperforming Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced and EA Sports FC 26. Based on the retail price, the ports are estimated to have generated $435 million in revenue across both platforms in less than four weeks.

The games are not remasters or remakes; they are 1080p ports that bring the original single-player campaigns, multiplayer modes, and zombies experiences to modern Sony hardware. Prior to this release, the titles — originally launched on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC — were unavailable on PlayStation 4 and 5 due to a lack of backward compatibility, though they have long been playable on current-generation Xbox consoles via that feature.

The strong performance highlights enduring demand for classic multiplayer experiences on PlayStation, where the franchise previously had a significant library gap. Activision has not announced further legacy ports, but the commercial success of these releases may influence future preservation strategies for the publisher’s back catalog.
