Former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola has pushed back against claims that current Governor Ademola Adeleke gifted him a vehicle, calling the narrative false and frustrating. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Oyinlola clarified that the car he received is not a personal favor from Adeleke but a statutory entitlement under Osun State law.
The ex-governor pointed to a legislation passed by the State House of Assembly that mandates the replacement of vehicles for former governors every four years. Having left office 16 years ago, Oyinlola noted that this provision has been applied consistently, regardless of who sits in the governor’s chair. He stressed that the benefit is tied to the office, not the individual.
“That is far from the truth, and it is a sad development that a governor will continue to tell lies,” Oyinlola said, visibly irked by the misrepresentation. “The Osun State House of Assembly enacted a law whereby some benefits will accrue to whosoever has governed the state. One of the things that is accrued to a former governor is that for every four years, his vehicle should be changed. It wasn’t Adeleke that gave me a car but Osun State government. It is a law.”
Oyinlola’s rebuttal serves as a reminder that political narratives often blur the line between personal generosity and institutional duty. For him, this is not about gratitude to an individual but about respecting the rule of law that safeguards the welfare of those who have served the state.
