The Osun State Police Command has warned residents against spreading fake news and provocative content on social media that could cause panic during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections. The warning, issued in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson Yemisi Opalola and obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, also praised the electorate for their peaceful conduct in the recent presidential and National Assembly elections, noting that it reflects the peace‑loving nature of Osun residents.
The statement read in part: “The police command warns against the spread of fake news and provocative content on social media with the intent to cause apprehension/panic in the state.” It added that vehicular and motorcycle movement will be restricted on Election Day, with no movement allowed from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m. except for essential services.
The command also appealed to parents to monitor their children and prevent them from engaging in criminal acts or becoming political thugs who could disrupt the election process. “Be more orderly in this coming House of Assembly election. We assure the general public of adequate security before, during and beyond the election,” the statement concluded.
