Police will protect your votes, AIG assures Katsina, Kaduna voters

Voters in Katsina and Kaduna states have been assured that their votes in the forthcoming governorship and state House of Assembly elections will be highly protected. The Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 14, Abdulrahman Ahmed, gave this assurance at a press briefing in Katsina on Wednesday. He explained that the briefing was intended to inform the public about the logistical reinforcement provided to the zone by Inspector General of Police Usman Baba.

“When I assumed office as the AIG for Zone 14 election duty, I discovered that the zone did not have even a single motorcycle, let alone any vehicles,” Ahmed said. “I immediately traveled to Abuja to meet the IGP and appealed for transportation, arms, and ammunition. He approved our request at once. We now have two patrol vehicles, a brand‑new armoured personnel carrier with full operational capabilities, sufficient arms and ammunition, and anti‑riot equipment. With these resources, the zone headquarters can complement the efforts of the commands under it, and we are ready to police the governorship and House of Assembly elections.”

Ahmed added that the police are prepared to provide a secure environment for every voter in the two states, enabling all citizens to exercise their franchise. He also assured the political parties participating in the elections that no candidate will receive preferential treatment. “Everyone is equal before the police, and all will be given a level playing field to exercise their constitutional rights,” he said.

“It has come to my attention that some politicians are crying wolf, claiming the police are not fair,” Ahmed continued. “I challenge them to produce a single incident where the police have acted unfairly. We will investigate any misconduct, and any officer or group found wanting will be dealt with according to the law. We are here for justice and fairness; there is no preferred candidate or party. We are God‑fearing, especially under IGP Baba‑Alkali.”

Ahmed concluded by emphasizing that the police must be seen to deliver justice to everyone, noting that they fear no one except the Creator and will discharge their duties without fear or favour. NAN
