The Osun State Police Command has warned individuals and groups against any attempt to forcefully seize control of local government areas or facilities across the state. The warning was issued on Monday by the Commissioner of Police, Election, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, following intelligence reports of plans by certain persons to occupy local government premises.
Erale congratulated residents on the peaceful conclusion of the recent governorship election and commended stakeholders for their participation in the democratic process. He noted, however, that the command remains concerned about reported moves to assume control of local government administrations while related legal matters remain pending before the courts.
“The Police Command wishes to state clearly that no individual, political group, or association has the right to resort to self-help or the use of force,” Erale said. He urged all parties involved in the local government dispute to exercise patience and allow the judicial process to determine the matter in accordance with the law.
The commissioner warned that any attempt to forcibly occupy or disrupt local government facilities would be treated as a serious breach of public peace and dealt with firmly under the law. Persons found culpable could face arrest and prosecution. He called on parents, community and traditional leaders, political figures, and youth leaders to counsel their supporters against actions capable of undermining security and stability.
Erale further appealed to residents of Osun State to remain calm, respect the rule of law, and allow the judicial process to run its course. He assured the public that the police would continue to protect lives and property while maintaining peace and public order throughout the state.
