The Allied Peoples Movement has secured a sweeping victory in Bauchi State’s local government Elections, capturing all 20 chairmanship seats and 319 of 323 councillorship positions, according to results released Monday night by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission.
BASIEC Chairperson Hajiya Jummai Abubakar declared the results following the completion of voting, counting, collation and verification across the state’s 20 local government areas. The commission confirmed that all successful candidates satisfied legal requirements and received the highest number of valid votes in their respective constituencies.
APM’s Umar Mohammed Aliyu recorded the highest vote total among chairmanship candidates, polling 125,170 votes to win the Bauchi Local Government Area. Abubakar Ibrahim Dembo followed with 109,999 votes in Toro, while Bappah Aliyu Mohammed secured Alkaleri with 107,482 votes.
Other chairmanship winners included Ya’u Samaila Sade in Darazo with 67,276 votes, Yusuf Babayo Zaki in Katagum with 65,626 votes, and Ali Babayo in Gamawa with 54,423 votes. Sama’ila Wakili Lere won Tafawa Balewa with 46,625 votes, and Habibu Idris Usman took Warji with 43,066 votes.
In Shira, former Majority Leader of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Saleh Hodi Jibir prevailed with 37,135 votes. The remaining APM chairmanship victors were Zakka Luka Magaji in Bogoro, Iliya Isah in Dambam, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo in Dass, Mohammed Idris M. in Ganjuwa, Mustapha Alhaji Musa in Giade, Dankawuwa Ya’u in Itas/Gadau, Inuwa Abdullahi in Jama’are, Garba Musa in Kirfi, Salisu Hussaini in Misau, Yahuza Adamu Haruna in Ningi, and Mas’ud Aliyu in Zaki.
Despite APM’s dominance, four opposition parties each secured a single councillorship ward. The Social Democratic Party won Dandango Ward in Bauchi LGA, the National Rescue Movement took Darazo South Ward, the Zenith Labour Party captured Wandi Ward in Dass LGA, and the Young Progressive Party claimed Zirami Ward in Giade LGA.
Abubakar stated the election was conducted independently and in accordance with the law. She commended Governor Bala Mohammed for his support of the electoral commission and congratulated the people of Bauchi State and all successful candidates on the conclusion of the polls.
