Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has revealed he is being treated for a neurological condition after collapsing during a preseason friendly for the second time in four days. The 23-year-old Germany international said he has been diagnosed with temporary absence seizures, a treatable condition linked to a neurological issue.
Musiala collapsed shortly after entering as a substitute during Bayern’s preseason match against Heidenheim on Tuesday. The incident occurred three days after a similar episode during a friendly against Leipzig. Players from both teams formed a protective circle around him as medical staff provided treatment before he was assisted off the field.
In a statement posted on Instagram, Musiala explained that the condition can cause the episodes he experienced in both matches. He described himself as “very optimistic” and confirmed he is receiving excellent medical care. Doctors have assured him there is no additional Health risk, he said, adding that his focus remains on recovery while continuing to enjoy everyday life and his passion for football.
Bayern’s official match report initially described the Heidenheim incident as a setback after Musiala was forced off with what appeared to be a knock only minutes after coming on. The Bundesliga champions are scheduled to face Borussia Dortmund in the German Supercup on Saturday, though Musiala’s immediate priority is his ongoing medical treatment and recovery.
The diagnosis provides clarity after two alarming on-field incidents in quick succession. Absence seizures, typically brief lapses in awareness, are generally manageable with medication. Musiala’s openness about the condition and his positive outlook have drawn support from teammates, fans, and the wider football community.
Bayern will assess his availability for the Supercup and the upcoming Bundesliga season based on medical guidance. For now, the club and player emphasize health over competitive timelines.
