The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has sealed multiple establishments and scrap yards in Agege and Mushin following persistent violations of environmental regulations. The enforcement action, carried out on Tuesday, targeted facilities cited for noise pollution, air pollution, general environmental degradation, absence of mandatory e‑waste permits, and repeated failure to comply with agency directives despite prior warnings and abatement notices.
In a statement released on its official X page on Wednesday, LASEPA said the operation aligned with Lagos State Government directives to enforce environmental laws, safeguard public Health, and promote a cleaner, safer city. The agency emphasized that affected businesses had been given several opportunities to rectify identified infractions but failed to implement required corrective measures.
“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), on Tuesday, sealed several establishments across Agege and Mushin areas of Lagos State for persistent violations of environmental regulations, despite repeated warnings, abatement notices, and several opportunities granted to enable compliance with the Agency’s directives,” the statement read in part.
LASEPA General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to protecting public health and preserving the environment through regular monitoring and enforcement. He warned that LASEPA would intensify actions against individuals, businesses, religious organisations, and corporate bodies whose activities endanger the environment and public well‑being. Dr. Ajayi urged all facility operators, scrap dealers, religious institutions, and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices, secure necessary permits, and cooperate with regulatory requirements.
Among the sealed facilities in Mushin are Akorohunfayo Central Mosque on Akorohunfayo Street, Fadeyi; Holy Temple of Christ on Ayetoro Street behind NIPCO Filling Station; Christ Covenant Gospel Church, Western District, along Ikorodu Road, Fadeyi; and Christ Apostolic Church (Oye Iyanu) at Church Bus Stop, Itire — all cited for noise pollution. Biolarique Bakery Academy on Mushin Road was sealed for non‑compliance with LASEPA directives, while Tiles & Marbles on Silver Street, Olorunsogo, was closed over air pollution.
Several scrap yards were also shut down for environmental infractions including the absence of e‑waste permits, environmental pollution, and failure to heed agency directives. These include Abubakar Scrap at Pipeline, Ifako‑Ijaiye; Benjamin Scrap Yard and Starlas and Sons Scrap Yard at Oko Oba, Ladoje Street; Jamin Scrap Yard at Jungle Bus Stop, Iju Road; and a scrap yard on Olu Aina Street, Daleko, Mushin.
The latest operation forms part of LASEPA’s sustained compliance drive across Lagos. The agency maintains that repeated violations and refusal to implement corrective measures will continue to attract sanctions, including facility sealing, as it seeks to curb environmental degradation and protect communities from associated health risks.
