The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt in Ibadan, the state capital, on Thursday. His special adviser on media and publicity, Yekeen Olaniyi, disclosed the incident in a telephone conversation with The. According to Olaniyi, a group of masked gunmen invaded Folarin’s ancestral home in the Oja’gbo area of Ibadan North‑East Local Government around 8 p.m., searching for the candidate, who had a scheduled meeting with family members.

Olaniyi explained that Folarin was representing his family on the Olubadan line as Asaju Olubadan and was supposed to hold the meeting between 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. However, he was on air at a radio station and did not leave until about 8:40 p.m. The gunmen, believing he was present, entered the area at 8 p.m., opened fire sporadically, and wounded several people.

In response, Olaniyi appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, through Oyo State Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams, and other security agencies to strengthen security around Folarin.
