Oyo State Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams confirmed that a clash between supporters of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) occurred on Thursday in Ibadan, leaving three people dead. The violence unfolded in the Ile‑tuntun area of the Ibadan South‑East Local Government Area.

State Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso told Fresh FM Ibadan that the Deputy Commissioner of Police, who heads the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, has been tasked with leading an investigative team to the scene. “Yes, the unfortunate incident did occur yesterday, and as we speak investigation has commenced into unraveling the root cause of the incident,” Osifeso said. He added that Oyo State, “the cradle of sophistication,” should not be allowed to descend into “hooliganism.” The police spokesman urged leaders, parents and guardians to discourage their wards from being used to disrupt the electoral process, noting that “elections will come and go but people will be there.”

According to reports, APC members were holding a meeting at their party office on Iyana Court, Ile‑tuntun, when passing PDP vehicles allegedly provoked the APC loyalists, who began throwing objects at them. An eyewitness recounted that the PDP members reacted angrily, and a leading PDP figure along with a House of Representatives member drew a gun and fired at the APC members, sparking a free‑for‑all. The provoked attack left many APC members injured, and a House of Assembly candidate from the party narrowly escaped harm.
