The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Enock Ogungbamigbe on Friday, accusing him of running a serial visa scam that targets Nigerians eager to migrate to Canada for work or education. The 32‑year‑old, who owns a garden in Mpape, a suburb of Abuja, was apprehended by EFCC operatives at the Transcorp Hotel after he responded to an appointment to procure a visa for an applicant intending to move to Canada—unaware that the meeting was a sting operation.
EFCC Director of Media and Publicity Wilson Uwujaren disclosed the arrest in a statement obtained by our correspondent. He explained that the operation followed a petition from a victim who had lost N5 million in processing fees for a Canadian visa. According to Uwujaren, the suspect also promised the victim a job upon arrival in Canada, but he only delivered fake visas, and attempts to recover the money proved futile.
The suspect will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded.
