Enugu Guber: LP candidate, Edeoga raises alarm as thugs shoot supporter, disrupt polls

Labour Party governorship candidate in Enugu State, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga has raised the alarm over the disruption of voting process in some polling units in the State.

He equally disclosed that at least one LP supporter has been shot by armed thugs.

Edeoga, who spoke to journalists after casting his vote in his Eha-Amufu ward, said there was a localised disruption of the voting process.

He revealed that more than 30 armed thugs were arrested in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, noting that the security agencies have been alive to their responsibilities.

The LP candidate listed the mostly affected local government areas to include Enugu East, Enugu South, Enugu North, Uzo-Uwani and Nsukka.

He said, “information we have received from across the state is that thugs, rogue police are attacking people, disrupting the voting process. Some of them are putting on fake military uniform.

“These matters have been escalated; we have done what we are supposed to do, to inform the authorities.

“These reports have come from Enugu East, Enugu South, Enugu North, Uzo-Uwani and Nsukka local government areas.

“Council chairmen are using thugs to disrupt the voting process. In several places, they are also inducing and intimidating voters.

“In Uzo-Uwani, armed men are going from community to community. One of our supporters, Pius Agaba was shot, he is in the hospital right now.

“However, the disruption is not statewide; it is localized.

“In Nsukka LG, apart from the case in Lejja, other attacks were nipped in the bud. A combined team of security operatives arrested a number of armed thugs this morning at a popular hotel from where they would have launched attacks on polling units.”

He commended both the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for their commitment towards a peaceful poll.

“INEC is trying but its commitment is being undermined by state actors who are hellbent on sabotaging the process.

“But we hope that at the end of the day, Enugu people will get the change they yearned for

“Most people are coming just with a mindset to loot the state, but by the grace of God, the will of the people will prevail,” he enthused.
