Voting in several polling units in the Igbogbo‑Baiyeku Local Council Development Area, Ikorodu, Lagos State, was marked by low voter turnout, according to reports. At polling units I and II, our correspondent observed electoral officials waiting for voters to arrive and cast their ballots.
At polling unit 023, Ward C2, Agunfoye, INEC officials were still awaiting voters at 11:48 a.m. when the correspondent arrived. The polling officer told us that 180 eligible voters were expected, but fewer than half had turned up at that time. A similar situation occurred at polling unit 033, Ward C2, which was visited at 12:42 p.m.; only 69 of the 377 registered voters had voted.
One party agent, who asked to remain anonymous, attributed the low turnout to recent relocations. He explained that residential buildings demolished by the Akinwumi Ambode‑led administration forced many residents to move away, reducing the number of voters present.
Low participation was also recorded at polling unit 010, Ward C2, where a large proportion of the 750 registered voters did not appear. Additional units—002, 003 and 010 in Igbogbo I (Methodist Primary School) and unit 005 in Igbogbo I (Adegboruwa Palace)—showed the same pattern when visited on Saturday afternoon. Polling officers were seen expecting more voters even after some had already cast their ballots, while party agents and a few voters lingered, waiting for voting to conclude.
INEC officials at the units told us that, if no further voters arrived, the sorting of results would commence as scheduled at the 2:30 p.m. close of voting.
