The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), delivered the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in his ward for the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday. According to the ward’s Collation Officer, Hamza Yusuf, the APC secured 261 votes in the governorship race, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) received 32 votes and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) obtained none. In the State House of Assembly contest, the APC garnered 240 votes and the PDP 50 votes. Results from other polling units were still being collated at the time this report was filed on Saturday evening.
Earlier in the day, the President and his son, Yusuf, cast their ballots at polling unit 003, Sarkin Yara ‘A’, Kofar Baru, Daura. They arrived at approximately 10:16 a.m., were promptly accredited, and voted after verification by INEC officials. Governor Aminu Masari also voted a few minutes before 11:00 a.m. at his Masari ward in Kafur Local Government Area. The Secretary to the Government of Katsina State, Muntari Lawal, and the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Dikko Radda, expressed optimism about the party’s prospects for victory in the elections.
