INEC staff shot by militants recuperating – Cross River REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Prof Gabriel Yomeri, has confirmed that the INEC ad hoc staff, Miss Glory Effiom Essien, who was hit by a bullet from suspected militants is now recuperating at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

She was reportedly shot from behind whilst inside a speed boat traveling to Bakassi communitiies for electoral duties.

The REC expressed worry and anger over the shooting of the young woman.

However, he said he was happy that the bullet did not affect the victim’s spinal cord.

“The victim is responding to medical attention at the University of Calabar, UCTH.”

An eye witness said, “The stray bullet hit her while she was in a speed boat heading towards Bakassi communities for governorship and House of Assembly Elections. She had slumped before being rushed to a hospital.

“She was hit from behind inside the speed boat she boarded. she became unconscious.”
