Nantes winger Moses Simon will be among the first players to join the Super Eagles at the John Woods Hotel camp, as invited squad members begin to arrive for the rapid double‑header of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea‑Bissau’s Djurtus. Simon is scheduled to land on Sunday together with German‑based defender Kevin Akpoguma of TSG Hoffenheim. The Nigeria Football Federation also announced that Leicester City teammates Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are expected in town the same day.
Simon, one of the longest‑serving members of the national team, is set to play a key role in the two fixtures that could secure an early ticket to the 34th AFCON finals in Côte d’Ivoire next year. Akpoguma, who captained Germany at the 2015 FIFA U‑20 World Cup in New Zealand before committing to Nigeria, will bolster the defence.
Having already collected the maximum six points from their first two matches, a victory in these top‑of‑the‑table clashes would lift the three‑time champions to 12 points. Sierra Leone could also earn six points against São Tomé and Príncipe, but that would leave them on seven points, while the Super Eagles still have a home game against the bottom‑placed São Tomé and Príncipe on the final matchday. The majority of the remaining 19 invited players are expected to arrive in Abuja on Monday.
