Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun was declared the winner of the state governorship election held on Saturday, securing a second four‑year term. Running under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abiodun received 276,298 votes, defeating his closest rival, PDP candidate Ladi Adebutu, who garnered 262,383 votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results on Sunday, with INEC Returning Officer Prof. Kayode Adebowale noting that out of 2,688,305 registered voters, 666,406 were accredited. A total of 663,968 votes were cast, of which 645,133 were valid and 18,835 were rejected.
During his first term, Abiodun faced criticism and accusations of poor performance, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claiming the state saw no development under his administration. Despite these allegations, he overcame the opposition’s attacks and secured re‑election.
The APC won twelve local government areas (LGAs) in the state: Odeda, Egbado‑North, Egbado‑South, Ewekoro, Ijebu‑North, Ijebu‑Ode, Ipokia, Abeokuta‑North, Ado‑Odo/Ota, Ifo, Obafemi‑Owode, and Imeko‑Afon. The PDP captured the remaining eight LGAs: Abeokuta‑South, Ogun Waterside, Ijebu‑North/East, Ikenne, Ijebu‑East, Remo‑North, Odogbolu, and Sagamu.
