How Sanwo-Olu retained seat as Lagos gov

The Governor of Lagos State and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Babajide Sanwo‑Olu, was declared the winner of the governorship election held on Saturday, March 18, in the early hours of Monday. The state Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji—who also serves as Vice‑Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure—made the declaration at INEC’s collation centre in Yaba, Lagos. She announced, “I hereby declare that Babajide Olusola Sanwo‑Olu, having satisfied the requirements of the law by having 25 percent of the total of the LGAs of the state and also having the highest number of votes cast and meeting the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner.”

Sanwo‑Olu won 19 of the 20 local government areas (LGAs) in Lagos State by a landslide. He secured 762,124 votes, defeating 15 other candidates to retain his governorship seat. The Labour Party (LP) candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes‑Vivour, obtained the second‑highest total with 312,329 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olajide Adediran, received 62,449 votes. The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) candidate, Olarewaju Jim‑Kamal, garnered 1,589 votes.

The only LGA that Sanwo‑Olu did not win was Amuwo‑Odofin, where Rhodes‑Vivour of the LP polled 34,860 votes against the APC’s 17,576. Detailed results for each LGA are as follows:
