The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule the winner of Saturday’s governorship election. Sule, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate seeking a second term, secured 347,209 votes, the highest total in the contest.
His closest rival, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), received 283,016 votes, while Abdullahi Maidoya of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) garnered 11,726 votes. The Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, Mohammed Mustapha, scored 9,003 votes.
The results were collated and announced in Lafia on Monday by INEC’s Returning Officer for Nasarawa State, Prof. Ishaya Tanko, who also serves as Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State. Prof. Tanko reported that the state has 1,899,244 registered voters, of whom 668,978 were accredited. A total of 660,805 votes were cast, with 6,934 rejected ballots.
“Having satisfied the requirements and having received the total votes of 347,209 for the APC candidate, Sule Audu, is hereby returned and declared the winner of the governorship election in Nasarawa State,” Prof. Tanko concluded.
