On 20 March 2023, Senator Ovie Omo‑Agege, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State, lost the election to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori. In the vote held on Saturday, Omo‑Agege received 240,229 votes, falling short by 120,005 votes of Oborevwori’s total of 360,234. Despite serving as Deputy President of the Senate and representing the Delta State Central Senatorial District, Omo‑Agege won in only four of the state’s 25 local government areas.
The State Returning Officer, Prof. Georgewill Abraham, declared Oborevwori the winner at the INEC headquarters in Asaba, stating that the PDP candidate “having met the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned as governor‑elect.” The INEC results for each local government area were as follows:
