The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Teslim Folarin, congratulated Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Seyi Makinde after Makinde was declared the winner of Saturday’s election. Official results show Makinde received 563,756 votes, defeating Folarin, who garnered 256,685 votes. Accord Party candidate Adebayo Adelabu placed third with 38,357 votes.

In a statement signed on Monday, Folarin said, “It is God who gives power and takes power! May Oyo State and our people continue to prosper.” He went on to acknowledge the Independent National Electoral Commission’s proclamation and offered his congratulations to Makinde. Folarin expressed gratitude to the electorate for supporting all APC candidates in the February 25 and March 18 elections, and thanked APC members, coalition parties, other political candidates, volunteers, the press, and individuals who contributed to the “Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo 2023” project. He concluded, “To whom much is given, much is expected,” and extended his sincere appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders.

Separately, Folarin disavowed a trending 2‑minute, 4‑second video that blamed President‑elect Bola Tinubu and other APC leaders for the party’s loss in the March 18 governorship and House of Assembly elections. In another personally signed statement, he asserted, “My attention has been drawn to a trending video blaming the President‑elect, Tinubu, and other APC chieftains for the outcome of Saturday’s elections. I strongly dissociate myself from the video; it was produced by my sworn enemies with the sole intention of driving wedges between me, our revered leader Asiwaju, and other party stakeholders. I reiterate, it is only God who gives and takes power.”
