National Assembly: Election tribunal receives 20 petitions in Oyo

The election petition tribunal in Oyo State has received no fewer than 20 petitions.

The petitions were received following the National Assembly, gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections held across the state.

The National Assembly election was held on February 25 this year while the gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections were held on March 18 across the 33 local government areas in the state.

The tribunal disclosed it has received 20 petitions from different political parties that participated in the elections.

Secretary of the tribunal, Mr Ibrahim Sada, who made these disclosures on Tuesday, said six petitions were received for the Senate while 14 petitions were received for the House of Representatives.

The petitions for the Senate, he further revealed, were received from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Accord party.

Two of the petitions were from PDP, three from NNPP and one from Accord.

Four petitions filed for the House of Representatives were from the All Progressives Congress (APC), while PDP filed three and NNPP and Accord respectively filed six and one.

Sada noted that the 21 days stipulated by the law for filing of election petitions from the day of announcements of result has lapsed for the National Assembly elections conducted on February 25.
