PDP’s Lawal thanks Zamfara people, opponents after defeating Gov Matawalle

Zamfara State Governor-elect, Dauda Lawal has commended the people of the state for his victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled 377,726 votes to defeat Governor Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who scored 311,976 votes.

In a statement on Tuesday, Lawal noted that the mission to rescue Zamfara from insecurity, poverty and others has kicked off.

The banker promised to deliver on his campaign promises and ensure prosperity and comfort, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.

“Under my leadership, Zamfara State will be a reference point for new ideas, determination, dynamism, and endless possibilities.”

Lawal commended royal fathers, clerics, civil servants, market women, men, “and most especially our resilient and dynamic youths”.

The Governor-elect also appreciated security agencies for maintaining order and for prompt responses to numerous challenges during and after the poll.

Lawal praised all PDP members, supporters, “my political opponents for our hard-won victory”, as well as the media for their coverage.

“I would like to thank you all for your continued support. We have turned our distant dream into an imminent reality,” the statement added.
