The West African Examination Council (WAEC) in Nigeria has unveiled its new Educational Statistics platform, which houses a database of over 50 million candidates tested over the years. At the launch of EDUSTAT, WAEC’s Head of the Nigeria Office, Mr. Patrick Areghan, explained that the platform will provide schools with student‑level data on academic performance, attendance, and demographics.
Areghan said the innovation aims to reduce reliance on manual data access, improve service quality, and generate additional revenue for the Council. He emphasized that “the new product, EDUSTAT, by WAEC, is borne out of the desire to provide stakeholders—researchers, funding agencies, government institutions, school administrators, and parents—with a reliable platform that delivers educational insights from multiple sources in simplified graphs, summaries, and dashboards, helping them enhance their decisions.”
The core benefit of EDUSTAT is access to a comprehensive interactive web report. The platform offers detailed, smart statistical insights into education and assessment dynamics, using both historical and current data to provide intelligence for stakeholders worldwide in an easily accessible manner. One key feature is real‑time data analysis, allowing educators to receive immediate feedback on student performance and adjust teaching strategies as needed. The system is also user‑friendly and customizable, enabling educators to tailor it to their specific needs and preferences.
Areghan noted that universities and colleges could use the platform to access data on enrollment and academic performance, helping them identify areas where additional resources are needed to support students and improve overall outcomes. He added that researchers will benefit from a comprehensive, intuitive tool for tracking and analyzing educational statistics. Designed for educators at all levels—from classroom teachers to school administrators and policymakers—the platform makes it easy to monitor student progress, pinpoint weaknesses, and make data‑driven decisions to improve outcomes for all students.
