Ekiti State Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti ordered the remand of 28‑year‑old Femi Olotu to the correctional centre on Wednesday. Olotu was arraigned on charges of shop breaking and theft after allegedly stealing a point‑of‑sale (POS) terminal and phone accessories.

Police prosecutor Inspector Caleb Leramo told the court that the offence occurred at about 2 a.m. on 2 February in Orin‑Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area. According to Leramo, Olotu broke into the shop of Olamide Fadipe, stole the POS terminal and phone accessories, and was shot at by a vigilante as he tried to leave. Olotu shouted for help, prompting neighbours to alert the police. A handbag recovered from Olotu contained tools, a knife and three small phones.

Leramo said the offences contravene Sections 421, 322(a) & (c) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021, and he urged the court to remand Olotu pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution. The court rejected the defendant’s plea and Chief Magistrate Mr Saka Afunso ordered Olotu’s remand to the correctional centre in Ado Ekiti while awaiting the legal advice. The case was adjourned for mention to 2 May.
