Abia State Governor‑elect Alex Otti, representing the Labour Party, dedicated his victory in the March 18 governorship election to God, stating that “God makes everything beautiful in His time.” In his acceptance speech on Wednesday, Otti declared that “the siege is over” and that the people’s votes had “broken the gates of hell.” The Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Oti, announced Otti’s win at the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters in Umuahia after completing the suspended collation of results. Otti secured 175,466 votes, defeating his closest rival from the PDP, who garnered 88,526 votes.
Speaking with humility and a sense of responsibility, Otti said, “I wholeheartedly accept your mandate to be your chief servant for the next four years.” He first dedicated the victory to God the Father Almighty and to the millions of Abia citizens who have suffered under poor governance. Otti thanked every Abian and non‑indigene who participated in the election, noting that this was his third attempt to win the office and to realize his long‑held vision of rebuilding Abia State as “truly God’s own state.”
He continued, “At this third attempt, it pleased God to give us victory. In the words of a Labour Party stalwart, ‘The Siege Is Over!’ With our votes and the collective will of the people, we have ‘broken the gates of hell and cast its bars of iron asunder.’ As recorded in the holy book, the kingdom of hell shall not prevail against us.” Otti assured the audience that their ideas and dreams for a vibrant Abia State would be realized under his administration. He invited everyone to join hands with his government to serve Abians who have endured years of maladministration and state capture.
