Senate President Ahmad Lawan has called on Nigeria’s Muslim faithful to pray for a peaceful transition of power at both national and sub‑national levels during the month of Ramadan. In a goodwill message delivered on Wednesday, he highlighted that this sacred period offers an opportunity to seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for the incoming administrations at the federal and state levels, which will assume the demanding task of continuing to build a vibrant and prosperous Nigeria.
Lawan emphasized that Ramadan is a “glorious opportunity for the Islamic faithful to thank Allah for His mercies on us as individuals and as a nation.” He noted that the holy month arrives at a critical juncture in the country’s political timeline, stating, “I do not see it as a mere coincidence that it falls within our political transition period.” He urged Nigerians to thank Almighty Allah for the successes recorded in the recent general elections and to pray for a smooth transfer of power in the coming months.
The Senate President also reflected on Nigeria’s progress, acknowledging that the nation is still learning to navigate the challenges faced by those who have traveled further along the political journey. “We have ample reasons to be thankful to Allah,” he said. He further advised that Ramadan should be used to pray for the success of the incoming federal and state administrations, as well as for divine guidance for the new 10th National Assembly, enabling them to perform their roles effectively and ensure good governance in Nigeria.
