Chief Diana Chen, Chairman of CIG Motors Co. Limited, highlighted that an unreliable electricity supply and security concerns are major obstacles to the effective operation of automobile assembly plants in Nigeria. Speaking at the official opening of the Guangzhou Automobile Group Motor Abuja G‑Style Showroom and the unveiling of the new GS8 premium SUV, Chen said, “Power stability is one challenge. Without a stable electricity supply, it is difficult to manufacture here. Another issue is security.” She urged the incoming government to address security problems urgently and emphasized GAC Motor’s willingness to collaborate with authorities at all levels to develop the youth’s capabilities, turning them into well‑trained, skilled, and technical professionals, especially in the automotive sector.
Chen noted that Nigeria possesses significant economic and automotive market potential across Africa. She called on the Federal Government to create policies that encourage Nigerians to purchase brand‑new vehicles rather than rely on imported used cars, arguing that such measures would stimulate investment in assembly plants and generate jobs and wealth for the country. She also revealed that GAC Motor Nigeria has partnered with four local banks to offer customers monthly installment plans for its vehicles. “GAC Motor Nigeria is committed to building and developing the future of the automobile industry in Nigeria, and believes that collaboration with the Federal Government is key to achieving this goal,” she said.
In addition, Chen assured Nigerians of GAC’s commitment to supporting the nation’s football teams and the creative sector. The event, attended by President of the Nigerian Football Federation Ibrahim Gusau, featured thanks from Gusau to the motor company for its support of Nigerian football. Super Eagles stars Ahmed Musa, Wilfred Ndidi, Kenneth Omeruo, and Alex Iwobi were also present.
Speaking about the new GS8 SUV, General Manager of Commercial at CIG Motors, Mr. Jubril Arogundade, described the vehicle as built for Nigerian roads. “The brand‑new GS8 is a premium SUV designed to meet the high‑luxury requirements of business leaders on a budget.
