To ensure a conducive learning environment for its students, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has executed projects worth N722 million at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia. The rector, Dr. Justina Kotso, disclosed this during the inauguration of the projects, which formed part of the institution’s pre‑convocation activities for the combined 2013/2014 and 2021/2022 convocation ceremony scheduled for Wednesday on the school premises.
Dr. Kotso outlined the new facilities: a student hostel block, an architecture studio block, and a civil engineering workshop and laboratory block. She praised TETFund’s collaboration with the Nasarawa State government in situating these buildings on campus and pledged to maintain and utilize them for the benefit of all polytechnic students. “We deeply appreciate the unwavering support and continuous intervention of TETFund in our institution, as evidenced in the construction and completion of these projects,” she said, adding, “I want to assure TETFund and the Nasarawa State government that our staff and students will protect these structures and put them to good use.”
In his speech, Executive Secretary of TETFund, Sonny Echono, was represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Babatunde Olajide, who commended the polytechnic’s management and staff for their cooperation and efforts in ensuring the timely completion of the projects. “It is noteworthy that the projects being commissioned today fall under the 2021 Annual Special and 2022 Annual Intervention of the fund. We shall endeavour to sustain and improve our intervention activities within the ambit of the law, towards making our public tertiary institutions globally competitive,” Olajide assured.
During the inauguration, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, the polytechnic’s Visitor, promised continued collaboration with the school’s management to foster rapid growth and development. Represented by his deputy, Emmanuel Akabe, Governor Sule noted, “When we came into office in 2019, the accredited courses in the school were either Arts or Social Sciences, but today all technical courses have now been accredited. We will continue to put our eyes on this polytechnic so that it becomes the best in the country.”
