The Inter‑Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) in Ogun State has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Oladipupo Adebutu, to seek redress in court over their defeat in last Saturday’s election. Speaking to journalists at a press briefing in Abeokuta on Friday, IPAC state chairman Samson Okusanya warned Adebutu against “unnecessary protest” and statements that could incite the public against security agencies.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared on Sunday that Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the election with 276,298 votes. Adebutu received 262,383 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Biyi Otegbeye, garnered 94,754 votes. Rejecting the results, Adebutu led some PDP members in a protest at the INEC office in Abeokuta and submitted a petition against the commission. Okusanya, however, urged Adebutu and the PDP to pursue legal action rather than make unfounded allegations against INEC.
Flanked by the state chairpersons, governorship and deputy‑governorship candidates of ten other political parties, Okusanya passed a vote of confidence in the election outcome. He stated, “In elections like this, one candidate will emerge as the winner, and anyone who loses should follow due process recognized by law to express any grievances, instead of creating unrest in the state.” He added that the inter‑party advisory council advises Adebutu and the PDP to shun violence, reminding them that “nobody is above the law.”
Okusanya emphasized the need for peace and progress in Ogun State, urging the losers to follow due process and act honorably in voicing concerns. He concluded by noting that all registered political parties present, including the People’s Redemption Party, National Rescue Movement, Action Democratic Party, All Peoples Party, and Labour Party, accept the governorship and House of Assembly election results as announced by INEC.
