The Court of Appeal in Abuja serves as the venue for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. In Anambra State, the Election Petitions Tribunal has received a total of 31 petitions from candidates representing various political parties. These petitions pertain to the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as the March 18 State Assembly polls.
Mr. Muazu Bagudu, Secretary of the Election Petitions Tribunal in Anambra, announced the filings in Awka on Friday. He noted that while the filing period for National Assembly election petitions has closed, the window for State Assembly election petitions remains open for aggrieved candidates. According to our correspondent, seven of the 31 petitions concern Senate seats, while 24 relate to the Federal House of Representatives. No petitions have yet been filed regarding the State Assembly elections.
A detailed breakdown shows that senatorial candidates from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Labour Party, and Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) are challenging the declared winners. In Anambra South, APGA’s Chris Azubogu, Labour’s Obinna Uzoh, and PDP’s Chris Uba are contesting the election of Young Progressives Party candidate Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah as Senator‑elect. In Anambra North, PDP’s Princess Stella Oduah is challenging Labour’s Tony Nwoye as Senator‑elect. In Anambra Central, APGA’s Dozie Nwankwo and New Nigerian Political Party’s Helen Mbakwe are contesting the election of Labour’s Victor Umeh as Senator‑elect.
