The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has pledged to complete all ongoing projects in the Niger Delta region. This assurance was given by NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku after he inspected the 6‑kilometre Obuama Internal Roads in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. Dr. Ogbuku also promised that the commission’s projects in Harry’s Town, Degema LGA, would receive the necessary attention.
A statement signed by NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs Dr. Ibitoye Abosede in Port Harcourt emphasized that the commission will continue delivering quality projects for the benefit of the region. Accompanied by Executive Director of Projects Mr. Charles Ogunmola and other directors, Dr. Ogbuku vowed that all ongoing projects in the community would be completed to positively impact residents’ lives.
During his visit, Dr. Ogbuku paid a courtesy call on former Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force leader Alhaji Alabo Asari Dokubo, whose mother hails from Obuama. He explained that it was proper to meet the activist and added, “You cannot just go for project inspection and leave the site.” The NDDC chief reiterated the commission’s eagerness to finish all community projects, stating, “We will address all issues raised by the community to ensure the projects benefit the people. Every community in the region deserves to benefit from NDDC projects.” He emphasized his personal involvement, saying, “I had to personally inspect the projects here, given my deep and special ties to the people. I could not leave the inspection to the NDDC Project Monitoring and Supervision Department.”
In response, Dokubo pledged to assist the NDDC Governing Board in stabilising the commission so it can work effectively for the region’s people. He expressed gratitude for the visit, noting, “It is not every time that an NDDC MD comes with his entourage. We have known most of the MDs, but he is the only one who has come to see me. I am grateful.” Dokubo added that the community is already saturated with stalled NDDC projects and said, “If my brother assists in completing these projects, we will be satisfied. We are not going to ask for more. The chiefs have told him these projects were there before but were stalled for various reasons. Now we pray that, by the grace of God, they will be completed.”
Earlier, at the Obuama Community Town Hall, Chairman of the Obuama Council of Chiefs Alabo Stanley Dick Harry praised the NDDC for the various projects it has executed in the community and urged the commission to complete the remaining ongoing projects.
