The Action Alliance has formally announced its position on the recent governorship election in Gombe State, stating why it wants the results cancelled. In a statement, party chairman Auwal Ibrahim said the AA would not accept a “selection” of candidates. Ibrahim declined to sign the result sheet after Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the All Progressives Congress candidate, was declared the winner. Before leaving the collation centre, he reiterated his party’s resolution, emphasizing that the outcome was unacceptable to the party’s flagbearer, Brigadier General Nuhu Milah.

Prior to the election, five political parties had adopted Milah as their sole candidate. The statement, provided to our correspondent on Friday, read in part: “On behalf of the Action Alliance, Gombe State chapter, I hereby inform the public that we have rejected the Gombe State Governorship Election result announced yesterday by INEC, where Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of the APC was declared winner by INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Maimuna Waziri.”

Explaining the rejection, Ibrahim said, “We discovered that the results for our gubernatorial candidate, Brigadier General Miller Nuhu Adeh (retd.), at polling units, wards, and local government areas were not accurately collated at the final state collation centre. Consequently, we consider these INEC results and the declaration null and void. We have already deployed our legal team to investigate the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IREV) and the manual result sheets, and we will pursue immediate legal action to reclaim our mandate in a court of law.”
