A soldier in Niger State killed three Beninese nationals in the Babana area of Borgu Local Government Area on Friday. Alhaji Suleiman Yarima, the chairman of the LGA, confirmed the incident and appealed to the people of Babana to remain calm. He assured residents that the Nigerian Army was handling the situation and that the law would take its course.

According to local resident Audu Alkali, the victims were a man, his wife and their baby who had traveled from Niganji in Benin Republic to trade at the Babana market. On their way back, the man got into an argument with the soldier, who threatened him with a gun and accidentally fired, killing all three on the spot.

Yarima said a delegation had been sent to Niganji to console the families of the victims and that an investigation into the killing was ongoing. He urged the community not to take the law into their own hands and to allow the designated authorities to handle the matter.
