Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party aspirant for the upcoming Imo State governorship primary, was found dead in his Lagos home. He had returned from a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja when he collapsed on Friday evening. A family friend, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the death and described it as a shock.

Anumudu, a native of Mbieri Ancient Kingdom in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, was a multi‑billionaire businessman and politician. He first contested the Imo governorship seat in 1998, winning the Peoples Democratic Party primary before ceding the ticket to Achike Udenwa, who governed the state from 1999 to 2007. Since then, Anumudu continued to vie for the top office, running as the Zenith Labour Party candidate in 2019. He was also a respected legal luminary and served as Chief Executive Officer of Globe Motors.
