The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced that it will investigate allegations that personnel of the Corps harassed staff members of the Port Harcourt Electrical Distribution Company (PHED). The statement was made by NSCDC Director of Public Relations Mr. Olusola Odumosu on Sunday in Abuja. Odumosu said the Corps’ management had received reports that men from the NSCDC Rivers State Command allegedly harassed some PHED employees at the Rumuola office in Port Harcourt.
The NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audi, ordered a full‑scale investigation to determine the facts and to impose appropriate disciplinary action on any officers found culpable. “The officers were sent to PHED for enquiry into the unusual power outage experienced by the Command for days, not to intimidate or assault anyone,” Audi explained. He added that, based on the report in his possession, a misunderstanding between the two parties likely occurred and may not have been handled properly.
A committee has been established to uncover what transpired, and the Corps will address the situation accordingly. Audi expressed displeasure at the alleged actions of his men if they are found guilty and pledged to get to the root of the matter. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to work in synergy with all critical stakeholders in the state, noting that PHED remains an essential partner with the Corps, which has provided security coverage for the company over the years.
The NSCDC emphasized its dedication to protecting critical assets and infrastructure, including oil pipelines, telecommunications equipment, electrical power installations, railways, roads, and schools. Audi warned officers and men of the Command to desist from any public misconduct, urging them to apply the Corps’ golden rule—“Humility and Integrity in service delivery”—in the discharge of their duties at all times.
