General Oladipo Diya (retd) was a former Chief of General Staff who died on Sunday. The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, sent his condolences to Diya’s family and expressed sympathy to the government and people of Ogun State for the loss of the one‑time number two citizen under the military regime of the late General Sani Abacha.

Lawan described Gen. Diya as a fine officer who dutifully fulfilled his role during some of Nigeria’s most critical periods. He noted that Diya “kept his dignity under the unfortunate circumstances that ended his military career and remained a respected member of his community until he breathed his last.” The Senate President prayed for the sweet repose of the departed General’s soul and for fortitude for his family, friends, and associates to bear the loss.

Reports indicate that Diya’s death was made public through a statement issued by his son in the early hours of Sunday.
