The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) issued an alarm on Sunday about the potential for thermal discomfort in several Nigerian cities. In a statement released by NiMet’s General Manager of Public Relations, Muntari Ibrahim, the agency noted that observations from the source region indicate temperatures are expected to rise above 40 °C within the next 48 hours.
According to the statement, parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Taraba, and Adamawa are likely to record temperatures exceeding 40 °C. Most northern cities are projected to experience temperatures between 35 °C and 40 °C, including areas in Oyo, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue. Cities such as Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, and Yola are also at risk of high thermal discomfort.
NiMet advises residents in the affected locations to stay well‑hydrated throughout this period. The agency assures the public that it will continue to monitor the weather closely and provide timely updates to Nigerians.
