The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Ahmed—also known as Binani—has called for a review of the March 18 governorship election results in 16 local government areas. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive and scheduled supplementary voting in 69 polling units across 47 registration areas where voting had been cancelled. However, a date for these supplementary elections has not yet been set.
Both Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, and Binani have contested the outcome, taking their dispute to INEC’s headquarters in Abuja. Fintiri’s camp argues that the Returning Officer was wrong to declare the poll inconclusive, while Binani, speaking on Channels TV’s *Politics Today* and monitored by our correspondent, praised the Resident Electoral Commissioner for that decision.
Binani explained her request for a review, stating, “Anyone who observed or monitored the Adamawa election knows it was marred by violence, rigging, over‑voting, and various irregularities. The figures presented to me appear fabricated. In some cases, the BVAS was bypassed; for example, if the BVAS accredited 10 voters, over 30 people actually voted. These discrepancies justify the REC’s declaration of an inconclusive result.”
She added that her lawyers have formally asked INEC for a review of the results within the constitutionally mandated seven‑day period. “My lawyer wrote to INEC on the 22nd of this month, because the election was declared on the 20th, and INEC has seven days to conduct a review if a candidate requests it. In the letter, my legal team requested a review of the results in 16 local government areas,” Binani said.
