Five people were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen in separate attacks across Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. According to locals who spoke to our correspondent, the first incident occurred last Thursday at Udei. Four victims had gone fishing and were killed. The second incident took place on Sunday at Njee, where one person was reportedly killed by the suspected herders.
A local resident, identified as Anyamnhu, said the final victim, Tyowooga Iorpuu, was killed on Sunday afternoon when herders raided Chongu Village, Mbagwa‑Mbawa, Daudu in Guma LGA. Tyowooga, 45, is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mlumun Tyowooga, and five children.
The chairman of Guma Local Government, Mike Aba, confirmed the two attacks through the council’s Chief Security Officer, Christopher Waku. He stated that three women and a man were killed in the first attack at Udei, where the victims had been fishing between 3 pm and 4 pm. He added that the second attack occurred at Chongu Village, Mbagwa‑Mbawa, resulting in one death.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, said she had not yet received any reports of the incidents.
