Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu has congratulated President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on the occasion of his 71st birthday, which falls on Wednesday, 29 March. In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo‑Olu praised Tinubu as an “enigmatic master strategist whose democratic credentials are scholarly material for study in political economy.”

The newly re‑elected governor described Tinubu’s emergence as president‑elect as a reward for his hard work and contributions to the country. He noted that, at 71, what matters most is the legacy Tinubu will leave behind. “God has blessed him with a great opportunity to take the mantle of leadership of Nigeria and chart the right path of progress for the people,” Sanwo‑Olu said.

Sanwo‑Olu highlighted Tinubu’s lifelong dedication to public service, stating that he has devoted the greater part of his adult life to humanity, Lagos State, and Nigeria. Tinubu’s contributions to democracy and good governance have shaped the nation’s political trajectory since 1999. He stood firmly with the Nigerian people during the dark days of the military junta, even at personal risk. “He fought tirelessly with other progressives and pro‑democracy activists during the annulment of the June 12 struggle, helping to end the military interregnum and usher in the democracy we enjoy today,” the governor added.

According to Sanwo‑Olu, Nigeria is blessed to have Tinubu as its next president. “In the political history of Nigeria, Asiwaju will forever be a reference point. He has redefined the socio‑political landscape by contributing to the survival of democracy and uninterrupted civilian administration for 24 years,” he said. Tinubu’s emergence as president‑elect reflects his political astuteness, courage, and sagacity.

As Tinubu celebrates his 71st birthday, Sanwo‑Olu wishes him love, care, wisdom, knowledge, sound health, and the strength to steer the nation toward development. He will assume the presidency on 29 May 2023. “On behalf of my wife Ibijoke, the good people of Lagos State, and the leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, I wish President‑elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu a happy 71st birthday.”
